About Mary Margaret Land Curtis
Mary is a master watercolourist, botanical illustrator and teacher. She has been creating in Prince Edward Island, Canada for over three decades.
This is what Mary says about her art: Through my paintings, I hope to empower people to believe in the gift of themselves. That's ultimately what my paintings are about. They are meditations about life and my experiences.
Mary's style, detail, and trademark "torn-edge" effect make her work truly unique. Her originals and reproductions have a dream-like quality and are matted with museum-quality acid-free matt. The inspiration for each artwork is inscribed on the back. Her work is available through this website or through Mary's studio by appointment.
Mary earned a degree in biology from the University of Guelph, where she also worked in the early 1980s as a Botanical Illustrator. Her love and interest in flowers is reflected in many of her paintings. Teaching art classes and workshops are ways of empowering others to believe in their own possibilities, creatively and otherwise.
Teaching Art for over 30 years continues to be a highlight my life, says Mary.
Mary and her husband Grant live in Charlottetown with a cat named Velvet.
